In 2014, with the help of a Craigslist ad — "Tell me about yourself," the subject said — I started meeting with people and listening to stories they'd never shared before due to fear of judgment, stigma, or ostracism. Thus, Craigslist Confessional was born. It is a free and anonymous listening project.
My aim in starting the project was to create a safe space where people could be unapologetically themselves — raw, honest, unmasked. Shared with the permission of my subjects, these stories are a testament to the depth and breadth of the human experience. In a world where our differences are often used to monger fear and separatism, they make make us feel that, no matter our struggle, we belong.
